The timeless stories were written to entertain by Carroll to entertain the young children of his friend, the Dean of Christ Church Oxford. The Dean’s eldest daughter Alice Liddell was the inspiration for Carroll’s titular heroine, and when Lorina Liddell, Alice’s mother, saw her children so captivated by Carroll’s stories, she persuaded him have them published. The first Alice tale was published in 1865 and has continued to delight readers of all ages ever since. The main characters from these beloved tales are wonderfully brought to life in these pieces, which are inspired by John Tenniel’s original Alice illustrations.
