Berkeley Chess Alice in Wonderland Metallic Chess Men
Beautifully handcrafted in the UK. Stunning attention to detail. 3.5 inch King. Solid crushed stone resin pieces. Heavy, well-balanced set. Based on Lewis Carroll’s iconic characters from ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking Glass’, this set of intricately sculpted metallic chess pieces have been lovingly produced in the UK from weighty, stone crushed resin. The timeless Alice tales were written to entertain the young children of the Liddell family, friends of Lewis Carroll that he knew during his time as a lecturer at Christ Church Oxford. The Dean of Christ Church Henry Liddell’s eldest daughter Alice was the inspiration for Carroll’s titular protagonist. When Lorina Liddell, Henry’s wife, saw her children so engaged in Carroll’s stories, she persuaded him have them published. The first Alice tale was published in 1865 and has continued to captivate people of all ages to this day. The main characters from these beloved tales are wonderfully brought to life in these pieces, which are inspired by John Tenniel’s original Alice illustrations.
