Concentric Ball Hand Carved Chess Pieces in Red Sandalwood

Hand crafted from red sandalwood. Distinctive spherical detail. 4″ (102 mm) king. Weighted and felted. Perfect on a 17″ (43 cm) board. Carved from rare, vibrant red sandalwood, the Concentric Ball Chess Pieces are quite possibly the finest ornate chessmen in the Regency Collection. Each piece features a spherical centre, individually hand carved, which makes the pieces aesthetically unique. On top of the ball stands a minimalized version of the traditional Staunton designs, with the knight, bishop and rook all instantly recognizable. The pawns are distinctly different with their layered, beehive tops. Because of the hand carving technique used, every pawn is noticeably different from its other front row peers. Standing twice the size of the pawns, at 4 inches (102 mm) , the king has a base diameter of 1.2 inches (30 mm) and is best suited to a board of 17 inches (43 cm or larger. Both of the royals have large crowns that convey their superiority, boasting heavy top ends that give them a satisfying playing weight.
