St George Chess Set

St. George luxury chess pieces presented in traditional Ebony and Boxwood. This design originates from the famous St George Chess Club and was a very popular in England circa 1800. This design predates the familiar Staunton look. The pieces are substantial in the hand and weighted perfectly. In many ways they represent a dicotomy of tradition mixed with a geometric design that could be described today as modernist. The board is finished in high gloss lacquer and is slightly thicker than our other deluxe chess boards. The presentation and feel of this board is very similar to a solid wood construction. Designed and produced in Spain, the finest Ash and White Erable veneers have been used to yield a large format board that compliments the St George pieces perfectly.
