The Berkeley Chess Isle of Lewis (2nd Edt) Cardinal Wenge Chess Set

Carefully crafted in the UK. Includes Spanish Maple & Wenge Board. 3.5 inch King height. Heavy stone crushed resin. Deep cardinal red and cream colouring. New edition of the iconic Lewis Chessmen. Featuring a rich, deep red and cream coloured finish, these beautiful resin pieces renew the iconic Isle Of Lewis Chessmen creating an exemplary chess set, complete with a luxurious Maple and Wenge Board. The enigmatic original chessmen were discovered in 1831 near Uig on the Isle Of Lewis. Their true origins are not precisely known, but historians believe that they were probably created in Trondheim, Norway around 1150-1200 AD. They are generally accepted as being standard chess pieces.The craftsmen at Berkeley Chess in the UK have adapted the originals into their own set of exquisite pieces. Intricately sculpted in the UK from fine stone crushed resin, with a rich red and cream colouring, they have been paired with an elegant Spanish-made Wenge and Maple Board, it’s a wonderful gift for any history or chess enthusiast.
