Based on the mysterious Isle Of Lewis Chessmen and intricately crafted from heavy crushed stone resin, this wonderful chess set also includes a 21.7 Inch Montgoy Palisander and Maple Deluxe Chess Board. The origins of this iconic chess set are shrouded in mystery but it is believed that they were crafted in Norway and lay undiscovered for centuries. The chessmen were finally unearthed in 1831 on the Isle Of Lewis coastline and have captured the imagination of millions ever since. The original purpose of the pieces has been the subject of much speculation but they are now widely considered to be conventional chessmen. The originals are on display between the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and The British Museum in London. The expert craftsmen at Berkeley Chess have interpreted the original designs into this spectacular new set which enhance the beauty and majesty of the original sculptures.
