The Berkeley Chess Isle of Lewis Russet Chess Men 3.35 inches

3.35″ king. Weighted for perfected balance. Felted bases. Expertly crafted in England by Berkeley Chess. A stunning recreation of an iconic set of pieces. New for 2017, these pieces are a beautiful interpretation of the famous Isle of Lewis chessmen, skillfully crafted in England by Berkeley Chess. The original Lewis Chessmen were carved mostly from walrus ivory with a few pieces carved from whale teeth. The carvings are finely detailed and character has been infused into the pieces. The pieces were found in impeccable condition; only the colouring showed significant wear. This beautiful resin set is formed from crushed stone resin composite and finished with a rich russet brown and cream colour scheme. The skilled craftsmen at Berkeley Chess have produced an authentic and striking interpretation of the Isle of Lewis chessmen, which fully does justice to the original pieces.
