The Hancock Striped Staunton Chess Set
Twist on the classic Staunton design. Handcrafted using light and dark rosewood. 4 inch (102 mm) king. Weighted for perfect balance. Bases covered with billiard cloth. Presented with a 21.7 inch (55 mm) Italian montgoy board. Complete with a solid sheesham case. This luxury chess set includes two components made from rosewood and one from solid sheesham, with the end result a spectacular centrepiece. The Hancock Striped Chessmen are some of the most distinctive, striking ornaments in the Regency Chess Collection, while the 21.7 inch montgoy board they sit on has been dextrously laid by the experts at Rechapados Ferrer. These hand turned rosewood playing pieces hold true to the original Staunton design but with a definitive twist. Each piece has swirls of dark and light rosewood woven into the same hard boxwood we use in all of our light pieces here at Regency Chess. The dark pieces boast a deep purple rosewood while the ‘white’ pieces have a lighter variant of the famous hardwood. What is fascinating about these pieces is the stripped down Staunton silhouette they have, adorned with eccentric flashes of rosewood. When they are off the board a solid sheesham 11 inch (28 mm) chess case holds the Hancock Striped Chess Pieces safely in a felt lined case. Having a box helps to protect the pieces and also ensures none are lost in between games. However, there is an argument to say that these chess pieces will be left out on display even when nobody is playing with them, such is their distinctiveness. Whether you have this luxury chess set as a serious game table or as an ornamental centrepiece it is sure to last for generations. We pride ourselves on providing customers with products that are built to last, disregarding the disposable nature of today’s consumer market. That’s why each chess piece is hand turned and hand carved, and the boards are hand made in Spain, because we believe in a product that takes more than 3 months to make and a lifetime to enjoy. This luxury chess set is a Regency Chess favourite
